The Art Patron's Edit — luxury gifts for the art collector
The Art of Good Gifting · Maison Grey

The
Art Patron's
Edit

For the collector with their own eye — gifts that open new doors into the working art world.

Occasion Any occasion
Approach The collecting life
Curated by Maison Grey

A collector's walls are a record of their attention. Each piece was chosen, lived with, and kept. The serious art lover already knows the names they want; the gift that delights them is not another print of a known thing but an introduction to what comes next — a new artist, a new room, a new door into the working art world.

The gifts in this edit are made for that. A curated platform that introduces emerging artists worth collecting now. A membership that opens the VIP days of the four most important contemporary art fairs in the world. A commissioned portrait by an artist Grey will source. And a private week inside Venice, Basel, or Maastricht, where the global art year unfolds.

"The right gift for an art patron is not a piece for the wall — it is an introduction to what they have not yet seen."

01 Emerging Artists
A curated gallery wall of emerging contemporary works Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles
Direct · Curated Gallery

Tappan Collective —
the next generation, considered

Chelsea Neman Nassib founded Tappan Collective in 2012 to bring the rigour of gallery curation to a global online audience. A team of art-world veterans makes studio visits, scouts emerging and mid-career artists, and represents roughly a hundred names at any time — paintings, drawings, ceramics, photography, sculpture. In 2023 Tappan opened a physical gallery on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, designed by Abramson Architects. Original works range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand.

For the recipient who already owns work they love and wants to discover the next artist worth following — Tappan is the platform serious collectors use to do exactly that, without the gatekeeping of traditional gallery culture.

02 Art Fair Membership

Direct · Frieze Membership

Frieze Membership —
the year's art calendar, opened

Frieze began as a magazine in 1991 and launched its first art fair in London's Regent's Park in 2003. Three more followed: Frieze New York, Frieze LA, and Frieze Seoul. Membership opens VIP and preview-day access to all four — the days when the major galleries hang their best work and the most considered acquisitions are made before the public ever arrives. It includes a digital subscription to Frieze magazine, members-only viewing rooms, and curator-led tours.

For the recipient who already follows the art year on instinct. Membership turns four scattered fairs into a single calendar of access, in four of the most important art cities in the world.

03 Commission

Experience · Commissioned Work

A commissioned portrait
by an artist Grey sources

A portrait painted, drawn, or photographed by a working contemporary artist — chosen for the recipient's eye, the recipient's family, or the room the work will hang in. Grey works with portrait specialists in the US, UK, and Europe: figurative oil painters with waiting lists, fine-art photographers known for editorial portraiture, and emerging artists represented by serious galleries.

Grey handles the introduction, the sittings, the framing, and the delivery. The gift is the commission card; the work follows over the months that follow. The recipient meets the artist; the artist meets the subject. A piece is made.

04 Private Art Week
The Venice Biennale — pavilions among the canals Venice · Basel · Maastricht
Experience · Art Week

A private week
inside the art calendar

The Venice Biennale in summer of an odd-numbered year, when the national pavilions go up and the city becomes the contemporary art world's home for six months. Art Basel in June, when the Swiss town becomes the most important gathering of dealers, collectors, and museum directors in the world. TEFAF Maastricht in March, the great fair of classical, modern, and decorative art. Grey arranges hotels, gallery introductions, dinners, and private viewings.

For the recipient who is ready to be inside the art world for a week — not as a tourist, but as a guest with a programme. Grey works with art advisors and gallery directors on the ground in each city.
